Selection Process

Setting the Standard in Innovation Assessment

Our evaluation process reflects our commitment to finding the very best in pet care innovation. We’ve created a thorough four-phase system that leaves no stone unturned, combining expert veterinary knowledge with detailed technical analysis.

Each submission goes through multiple rounds of careful review, ensuring we spot those rare breakthroughs that truly advance dog health care. Our expert team examines every aspect – from the science behind the innovation to its real-world impact.

This careful, systematic approach helps us identify innovations that don’t just look promising on paper, but actually make a meaningful difference in dogs’ lives. It’s how we maintain our position as Europe’s leading voice in recognizing genuine advances in pet health care.

Screening Process

Before anything else, each submission goes through a careful initial review. Our assessment committee examines all the essential documentation – from veterinary studies to safety certificates. We look at manufacturing details, testing data from real dog owners, and technical descriptions of what makes each innovation special. Only submissions that meet our strict standards move forward to the next phase.

Required Documentation:

  • Complete documentation of veterinary studies
  • Safety compliance certificates
  • Manufacturing process validation
  • Dog owner testing data
  • Technical innovation description

Scientific Assessment

The heart of our evaluation process focuses on the science behind each innovation. Our expert panel of veterinarians and researchers examines clinical effectiveness, including how well the trials were designed and whether the results are statistically significant. We evaluate the quality of measurements and how easily the results can be reproduced. For product innovation, we look at new technology applications, sustainability, durability, safety, and how the product actually works.

Assessment Areas:

Clinical Effectiveness

  • Clinical Effectiveness
  • Robustness of veterinary trial design
  • Statistical significance of results
  • Quality of measurement methods
  • Reproducibility of findings

Product Innovation

  • Novel technology applications
  • Sustainability of materials
  • Product durability and safety
  • Mechanism of action documentation

Data Evaluation

At this stage, we assess how well these innovations work in the real world. Our evaluators examine manufacturing standards, including quality assurance, control measures, and the ability to scale up production. We also look closely at actual results – concrete measurement data, feedback from dog owners, how the product compares to existing solutions, and evidence of real-world effectiveness.

Evaluation Areas:

Manufacturing Standards

  • Quality assurance compliance
  • Quality control measures
  • Scale-up feasibility
  • Process innovation

Consumer Results

  • Objective measurement data
  • Dog owner satisfaction metrics
  • Performance against market benchmarks
  • Real-world effectiveness evidence

Expert Panel Review

In the final phase, our Independent Veterinary Review Board conducts a thorough peer review. Each innovation undergoes blind evaluation by at least three board members, with careful cross-validation of findings and assessment of potential impact on dog health care.

Review Process:

  • Independent Veterinary Review Board assessment
  • Blind evaluation by minimum 3 board members
  • Cross-validation of findings
  • Innovation impact assessment
